Valley Center, once a quiet farming community, has undergone a transformation. Known for its agricultural produce and historical events like the 1866 grizzly bear killing, the town remained unchanged for 150 years. Folks chose Valley Center because land was relatively inexpensive, and affordable custom homes were interspersed with agricultural open spaces. Today a million dollars will buy you so much more in Valley Center than in Escondido or other parts of San Diego County. However, recent developments have shaken up the landscape. Planned communities, particularly Park Circle, have emerged, adding to the traditional ranch-style homes with modern dwellings. This shift has diversified the real estate market, with homes ranging from $600,000 for a classic rancher to $1.6 million for a luxurious custom-built residence complete with a spa. Despite these changes, Valley Center maintains its small-town charm amidst the evolving urbanization.
